Alex (Gabrielle Haugh) is a typical teenage girl who lives with her sick grandmother, Anna (Lin Shaye). While searching through the attic, Alex finds directions to a game, which played properly, will awaken “The Midnight Man” (Kyle Strauts), an evil being who will make your worst nightmare come true. At first, Alex and her friends think the game is harmless fun. It is—until The Midnight Man comes to play…for real. When Dr. Goodberry (horror legend Robert Englund) comes to the house to check on Anna, he can sense The Midnight Man’s presence, and warns the kids that when The Midnight Man comes to play, he plays to win.
Season 2 of Syfy’s Channel Zero just ended, and they’ve already released information on next season.
Channel Zero is an anthology series, and over each six episode season, they bring to life a different creepypasta that’s popular on the internet. (I personally hate the word creepypasta, it’s horror fiction, it didn’t need a new name.)
Season 1 was Candle Cove, season 2 was the no-end house, and season 3 will be based on one of my favorite horror fiction series, Search and Rescue! Search and Rescue gained popularity in the NoSleep forum on Reddit, and was adapted by the hugely popular NoSleep podcast. If you’re a horror fan and you’re not listening to NoSleep, you should be. They do a fantastic job adapting stories, and they are putting out quality material each and every week. I’m a season pass holder and it’s money well spent. There’s also a free option if you want to try it out, but be warned….you will want more and more.
I’m not sure why they didn’t just call it Search and Rescue, but they’ve decided to go with Butcher’s Block, and have set it in the city instead of the woods. The original stories are so strong, but hey, what do I know.
Season 3 will tell the story of a young woman named Alice (Olivia Luccardi, It Follows) who moves to a new city and learns about a series of disappearances that may be connected to a baffling rumor about mysterious staircases in the city’s worst neighborhoods. With help from her sister, she discovers that something is preying on the city’s residents.
In addition to Luccardi, Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block cast and characters include:
- Holland Roden (Teen Wolf) as Zoe Woods, Alice’s sharp, tough older sister whose struggles with mental illness have worn her down over the years;
- Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) as Joseph Peach, a 1950s meatpacking magnate who grew increasingly reclusive and then disappeared after his beloved daughters were murdered;
- Brandon Scott (Wreck-It Ralph) as Officer Luke Vanczyk, a young but already jaded cop, living in the shadow of his father, the Chief of Police.
- Krisha Fairchild (Krisha) as Louise Lispector, a retired journalist who has lived in Garrett, Michigan her whole life. Now she spends her days doing taxidermy and working on her personal project: A book about a pattern of disappearances in the city’s worst neighborhood.
I’m really not one of those people who is always shouting that “the book is better!!!” but I’m kind of worried that this is going to stink. Moving it out of the woods makes me sad, but I’ll give it a chance anyway.
. When recent college grad Regan goes to a family’s house to babysit their daughter for the weekend, she invites her three best gal pals along. What starts as a girls’ getaway becomes a journey into hell, as the young women discover the house is haunted by a dark and violent history.
Stars: Sarah Davenport, Andrew Divoff and David Naughton.
A group of teens on a weekend getaway at a secluded cabin in the woods soon find themselves fighting off a serious threat to their lives. Not only that they must save their hard-partying, drunk and stoned parents from a predatory neighbor who is hellbent on feeding them all to her undead family.
DEAD SHACK debuts at the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 22nd and hopefully on VOD soon afterwards.
Jackals is a disturbing vision of a fractured family that will do anything to get their estranged son back from a murderous cult, but find themselves under siege when the cultists surround their cabin.
