Thanks so much to Shudder for giving me an advance look at this film.

Party Hard, Die Young was shot on location and takes place at the X Jam on the Laterna Peninsula in Croatia. The story follows a group of recently graduated high schoolers who are ready to party for a week on the isolated island along with thousands of other partygoers. Our main character is Julia, who is with her best friend Jessica and her fellow classmates for the party of their lives before heading off to college. This film was beautifully shot, it really helps that it was on location and the colours are so bright and vivid, I’d want to go here. In the off season.

On their first night, Jessica finds out that her best friend has been keeping a secret from her and storms off. Soon, other classmates begin to disappear or die in what the police refer to as freak accidents. Yeah, the police don’t believe Julia that something is going on and Jessica hasn’t just run off with some guy for sexy times like text messages sent from her phone suggest. Soon though, it becomes clear that class 8B is being stalked and picked off one by one. But why?

I have to say, I really enjoyed this movie. It’s subtitled, so I had to read along but the actors did a fine job with their material and I really felt for some of them. I was there with Julia when she was worried and frustrated over her missing friend. At one point, one of the characters mocks her by asking if she thinks they are in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” which was a phenomenal line once you get to the film’s conclusion. I enjoyed the use of social media in the film, no fake names like FriendFace here.

I’d suggest checking this one out on Shudder. It starts streaming tomorrow, July 3rd. Not subscribed to Shudder yet? WHY NOT? You can get 30 days for free by using our code ROCKSTARS at checkout.

PARTY HARD, DIE YOUNG (2018) — available Wednesday, July 3

Director: Dominik Hartl, Cast: Marlon Boess, Markus Freistätter, Michael Glantschnig

School’s out, so Julia, her friends and thousands of fellow graduates are on their way to an island resort in Croatia, and it’s supposed to be the party of their lives! The harmless fun soon turns deadly serious when Julia’s friend is killed, and it probably wasn’t an accident. Slick, stylish and loud, PARTY HARD DIE YOUNG is in the tradition of the best post-Scream slashers. A SHUDDER ORIGINAL. (Also available on Shudder Canada and Shudder UK)
