More of this, please!

Shudder just added two classic horror movies from the 1970’s. They are brought to you by Dan Curtis, who also made Burnt Offerings & Dark Shadows.  The movies are an anthology, “Dead of Night” and a vampire flick, “Dan Curtis’ Dracula”.

Dead of Night

Dead of Night is an anthology, with stories about a vintage car that transports its driver back to 1926, the mistress of an old mansion who is terrified by vampires and a mother tormented by her dead son Bobby.  It stars a baby-faced Ed Begly Jr., Patrick Macnee, Anjanette Comer, Horst Bucholtz & Joan Hackett.

If you’re a fan of older horror, or you’re over the age of 25, I’d advise you to avoid the reviews on the site. One of them is complaining that this movie is a “Twilight Zone ripoff”. Well if you actually knew anything about the Twilight Zone, you’d know that Richard Matheson wrote a lot of those stories, and he wrote these stories, so of course, there will be a similar vibe. And I’m not sure how that’s even a bad thing? For me, it’s a huge plus!

Dan Curtis’ Dracula

“Jack Palance stars in this terrifying adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic vampire legend written for the screen by sci-fi/horror master Richard Matheson and produced by the legendary Dan Curtis. Palance is Count Dracula, whose centuries-old existence is threatened after he attacks the lovely Lucy Westenra and her fiancé calls in famed vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing to investigate.”

Cast: Jack Palance, Simon Ward, Nigel Davenport, Pamela Brown, Fiona Lewis
